Pattern description: Beginner friendly baby short-sleeve cardigan is a simple stockinette sweater worked top-down, starting with garter stitch neckband. Buttonhole bands are formed with 6 stitches at the beginning and at the end of the row and are worked in garter stitch. On the raglan part the increases are made every second (right side) row. After each increase row there should be 8 stitches more than on the previous row. The cardigan is finished with simple 2x2 rib for body and for sleeves. There are no stitches increased for the underarm part. The pattern is written for two sizes:
Materials: Yarn: Drops Cotton Merino 2 balls, 206 m/ 225y or any DK weight yarn For smaller size: 4 mm/ US 6, 80 cm/ 30” circular needles For bigger size: 4,5 mm/ US 7, 80 cm/ 30” circular needles 4 stitch markers Scrap yarn Tapestry needle 6 buttons Gauge: For smaller size use 4mm/ US 6 needle: 13 sts x 16 rows (2”) For bigger size use 4,5 mm/ US 7 needle: 11 sts x 14 rows (2”) Finished size: For smaller size, using 4 mm/ US 6 needle: 45 cm x 24 cm/ 17” x 9,5” For bigger size, using 4,5 mm/ US 7 needle: 51 cm x 26 cm/ 20” x 10,20” Abbreviations: CO – cast on BO – bind off RS – right side WS – wrong side pm – place marker sm – slip marker sts - stitches k – knit p – purl yo – increase, yarn over kfb – bar increase, knit into the front and back of the same stitch k2tog – decrease, knit two stitches together through the front loop stockinette stitch – knit RS row and purl WS row garter stitch – knit RS and WS rows garter ridge – two rows worked in garter stitch Written instructions: CO 62 sts
Repeat last two rows (7th and 8th) until there are 190 sts on the needles (36 for each sleeve and 118 for the body part). Next Row (RS): K to the marker, remove marker, slip 36 sts onto scrap yarn, remove marker, k to the next marker, remove marker, slip 36 sts onto scrap yarn, remove marker, k to the end of the row. (118) Work in stockinette stitch maintaining 6 stitch garter button bands on each side, until body measures 10 cm/ 4” from the underarm or 20 cm/ 8” from the CO row. Work ribbing as described below. Ribbing: (RS) K6, [k2, p2] repeat to the last 8 stitches, k8, turn. (WS) K6, [p2, k2] repeat to the last 8 stitches, p2, k6, turn. Repeat these two rows for ribbing and work until sixth buttonhole row. After sixth buttonhole row and it’s wrong side, work one RS and one WS row of ribbing more. Bind off loosely in pattern. Sleeves Join yarn at underarm and work in round in stockinette for 2 rows. Start 2x2 ribbing and work for 4 rows. Bind of loosely in pattern. Repeat for second sleeve.
